I read many interviews with Brian May, and he wasn’t even aware that Freddie Mercury was gay until he had full-blown Aids long after Live Aide. Truth be told, Queens LiveAide performance wasn’t that great. I thought Sabbath, and Zeppelin reunions were the highlights of the Freddie Mercury in style Schroeder play piano peanuts cats shirt show. Mercury wasn’t singing the high notes like he could years earlier. Did we really go to the cinema expecting this to be an exact account of all events? I know I didn’t. Although I didn’t know that he didn’t know about his illness at the time of live aid ….. but the film hit so hard because WE knew … we knew the ultimate outcome, so maybe not entirely factual, but hard-hitting non the less! I first watch the Freddy Mercury biography on Reels, then saw the Bohemian Rhapsody. Inconsistencies aside, it was still a good movie!
